St. Mary of the Purification Catholic Church and School, located at 3006 Rosedale and Ennis Streets, Houston, Texas was founded April 5, 1929, under the auspices of the Catholic Diocese of Galveston-Houston, Texas. St. Mary's Catholic Church is considered a cornerstone within the Catholic community and has provided tangible spiritual leadership for residents of the third-ward area of Houston, Texas since its inception. We consider our motto "We Are Family," a mission statement more so than an abstract remark.
Over the years our "church community" has witnessed several changes in terms of its demographics. Although considered an urban, predominately-black parish, in reality, St. Mary’s parishioners are of very diverse racial groups and consist of individuals from all age groups and walks of life.
Collectively we are a vibrant family of Christians whose primary goal is to serve God through serving others. We welcome you to worship with us and join us in this undertaking at any time. Parishioners are invited and encouraged to offer services to God and others through participation in a variety of Church ministries.
Our Montessori School provides quality Christian-based education for Catholic as well as non-Catholic students in grades Pre-K 3 through grade 5. We are extremely proud of our school and well-qualified instructors. Our students consistently meet or exceed grade level testing on the nationally acclaimed Stanford Early School Achievement Test. Please feel free to visit our school at any time or contact the school office by dialing 713-522-9276.
