Dear Parents:
Lent is a time of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. For the past several years, the Religious Education/CCE Program has practiced Corporal Works of Mercy by helping the poor. During Lent 2021 that activity consisted of doing random acts of kindness for family members, friends, and others that resulted in the purchasing of chickens, goats, lambs, and other farm animals for families through World Vision. For the last two years, the CCE program participated in helping the homeless through Moving Waters Houston. Moving Waters Houston is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2017, that is committed to improving the quality of life of our unhoused brothers and sisters in the Galveston - Hoouston area. This organization provides showers via a mobile shower service and personal items like socks. This year, our program will create small bags of food and water which can be given out to the homeless by our students. These bags will consist of a small bottle of water, cheese or peanut butter crackers, some applesauce or fruit cup with a napkin and a spoon. These items are readily available at places like Dollar Tree. Each bag will be labeled with a bible verse chosen by CCE students.
On February 18th, each class of students and their catechists will decide which food items each person will bring. The bags, spoons, and napkins will be provided by the CCE program. All items should be brought to class on February 25th. At the end of class, each student will have a bag that can be distributed to a homeless person with adult supervision.
Lent is a time of prayer and thoughtful reflection of the sacrifice, suffering and death of Jesus for our sins. Matthew 25:31-40, challenges on how to treat the less fortunate that shows our love Jesus, who has instructed us in the care of others. Here is an excellent opportunity to implement the Gospel and your help is needed. Thank you for your assistance with this project.
If you have any questions, please reach out to your child(ren')'s Catechist or Ms. Daphine Sands.
